School field trips and youth groups at a private escape room in Chicago

Fox in a Box Chicago hosts school classes, clubs and youth groups in private escape rooms inside Dearborn Station, 47 W Polk St, Suite L5, Chicago, IL 60605. Each room takes 2 to 7 players, all four rooms run at once, and staggered start times make room for big groups.

Students under 14 play with an adult in the room; ages 14 to 17 need a parent, guardian, teacher or chaperone on site. Want one game for the whole group? The Final Exam takes up to 15 players at our location.

  • Private rooms, your group only
  • 2–7 per room, any group size
  • 60-minute game, 80–90 minutes in all
  • Dearborn Station, just south of the Loop

Why it worksLearning that doesn’t feel like class

  • Teamwork for realNobody escapes alone. Students have to listen, share what they find and agree on what to try next.
  • Problem solvingLogic, patterns, codes and a bit of lateral thinking, all against a 60-minute clock.
  • Every voice countsThe quiet student who spots the hidden clue is the hero of the hour. Groups mix in a way the classroom rarely allows.
  • Safe and privateEach room is private to your group, with a game master watching and giving hints when a team gets stuck.

Tell us the ages and how many adults are coming, and we’ll match the rooms and start times to your chaperones.

  • Under 14An adult in the roomA parent or another adult, such as a teacher or chaperone, plays along in the room. One adult per room is enough, and that adult counts as one of the room’s players.
  • 14 to 17A guardian on siteA parent, guardian, teacher or chaperone stays at Fox in a Box during the game, but not in the room. Only a parent or guardian can sign the waiver for a player under 18.
  • 18 and upEvery roomAdults can play any room, including Zodiac, which is 18+ for every player.

Group sizesA whole class, in waves

Small teams of 3 to 5 work best. A class splits across rooms that start at the same time; a bigger group plays in staggered waves.

Under-18 groups play The Bank, The Bunker and The Prison; for younger students, The Prison and The Bunker have a child-friendly version designed for ages 10 to 14. University and adult groups can add Zodiac.
